NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame sophomore forward Troy Murphy was named the BIG EAST Conference co-player-of-the-week on Monday for his role in last Wednesday’s 75-70 win over defending national champion Connecticut in Hartford.
Murphy recorded 33 points and 16 rebounds in the win over the Huskies, who were ranked second in the country at the time of the game. Murphy now has recorded double-doubles in 11 games this season.
Murphy shared the award with Erick Barkley of St. John’s as the Red Storm posted wins over Pittsburgh and West Virginia and averaged 25.5 points per game.
The Morristown, N.J., native has won the award five times this year and four weeks in a row. Syracuse’s John Wallace holds the record for both consecutive weeks winning the award with five in 1995-96 and most awards in a single season with six in 1995-96.
Notre Dame returns to action on Wednesday when it plays host to Boston College at 7:30 p.m. in Joyce Center.
