Morrison Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame women’s lacrosse player Jaimie Morrison has earned a spot on the latest BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll the conference released on Monday afternoon.

The junior has proved to be a consistent goal scorer throughout the year, and last week was no different as the Irish picked up a pair of victories in Florida over Yale (15-9) and No. 16 Cornell (17-13).

Morrison scored two goals on two shots in the victory over the Bulldogs and then scored five points (3G, 2A) and added three ground balls and a caused turnover in the win over the Big Red. The five points tied her career best.

On the year Morrison is second on the team with 15 goals and is also second on the team with 20 points. The Yorktown, N.Y., native has scored her 15 goals on only 30 shots and has also chipped in nine ground balls.

She is the fourth Irish student-athlete to be recognized by the BIG EAST this year. Senior attacker Maggie Tamasitis has earned Offensive Player of the Week and Weekly Honor Roll honors, junior goalie Ellie Hilling was selected Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore midfielder Margaret Smith has earned Weekly Honor Roll accolades twice.

The No. 6 Irish open BIG EAST play this Saturday at 1 p.m. when they welcome Louisville to town. All children 12 and under will be admitted with a parent or guardian. Children are encouraged to participate in the free postgame lacrosse clinic and autograph session. Children wishing to participate should bring a lacrosse stick, but some will be provided for those that don’t have one.

Fans can check out the Irish lacrosse team on WNDU (Ch. 16) on Tuesday morning from 5-7 a.m. Head coach Christine Halfpenny and several members of the team will be demonstrating the sport of women’s lacrosse as well as talking about the upcoming BIG EAST schedule.
