Morris Named Big Ten's First Star For Second Consecutive Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind.
— For the second consecutive week, Notre Dame goaltender Cale Morris has been named the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday morning (Nov. 21).

Morris led the Irish to a weekend sweep at RPI to help Notre Dame improve its current winning streak to seven games. In game one of the series against the Engineers (Nov. 17), Morris made 38 saves en route to a 4-1 victory. In game two (Nov. 18), the sophomore stopped all 25 shots he faced, including 16 in the third period stemming from an extended 5-on-3 RPI power play, as the Irish went on to win 1-0 in overtime. It marked the second shutout in the last three games by Morris, with both of his shutouts coming in 1-0 victories.

All told against the Engineers, Morris posted a 0.50 goals-against average and he stopped 63 of the 64 shots he faced for an impressive .984 save percentage.

It marks the third consecutive weekly award for Morris, who is now 9-1-0 on the year with a .945 save percentage and a 1.75 goals against average. His .945 save percentage ranks fourth in the country and first in the Big Ten. He has started each game during Notre Dame’s current seven game winning streak.

Morris and the fourth-ranked Fighting Irish return to Big Ten play this weekend with a home series against sixth-ranked Minnesota (Nov. 24-25) at the Compton Family Ice Arena. To purchase tickets, click here.
