Morris Earns Third Consecutive B1G First Star

NOTRE DAME, Ind.
— For the third consecutive week, Notre Dame goaltender Cale Morris has been named the Big Ten’s First Star of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday morning (Nov. 28). Morris is the first player to earn Big Ten First Star honors in three consecutive weeks.

Morris led the Irish to a weekend sweep over Minnesota, posting a 44-save shutout in the 1-0 game one win (Nov. 24) and then a 40-save showing in game two’s 5-2 victory, with Minnesota’s two goals coming on the power play. For the weekend, Morris posted a 1.00 goals-against average to go along with an impressive .977 save percentage (saved 84 of the 86 shots he faced).

Morris and the Irish have now won nine games in a row with Morris starting all nine of those games. He has three shutouts, all coming in 1-0 wins, to go along with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .960 save percentage during the nine-game stretch.

It marks the fourth consecutive weekly Big Ten award for Morris, who is now 11-1-0 on the year with a .952 save percentage and a 1.62 goals against average. His .952 save percentage ranks first in the country, while his .917 winning percentage also leads the country.

Morris and the No. 3/4 Fighting Irish continue Big Ten play this weekend with a road series at Michigan State (Dec. 1-2) at the Munn Ice Arena.
