NOTRE DAME, Ind. –

University of Notre Dame men’s tennis standout Blas Moros has won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award for the Midwest Region, the organization announced Saturday.

Moros is one of 12 regional winners, with the national winner slated to be announced at the NCAA Championships in Champaign, Ill., in a couple of weeks.

He is the fifth Irish men’s tennis performer to earn the award, following in the footsteps of Chuck Coleman (1993), Mike Sprouse (1995, 96) and Brent D’Amico (2005).

The Boca Raton, Fla., native recently wrapped up a splendid 2013 season by earning all-BIG EAST honors in helping the Irish to their ninth BIG EAST Championship. Moros went 24-6 during the 2012-13 campaign, including going 14-6 during the spring season playing two and three singles.

Moros is set to graduate from Notre Dame May 19 with a Bachelor of Arts in finance from the Mendoza College of Business.
