Monogram Member Ralph Roberts Passes Away

March 17, 2009

Notre Dame, Ind – Long time Notre Dame fan and honorary Monogram winner Ralph Roberts passed away Feb. 19 2009, at DuBois Regional Medical Center in DuBois Pennsylvania. He was 91.

Roberts, who listed the three most important things in his life as family, his business and Notre Dame football, received an honorary monogram in 2001 for his lifelong support of the Irish.

A list of honorary members of the Monogram Club is displayed in Notre Dame’s Heritage Hall. His son Bob recalls how proud his father was to have his name appearing on the same list as former President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II and members of the Rockne family.

“I remember dad and I would talk about the impressive names he was up there with.” His son Bob said, “He was very proud to be a part of them.”

Art Dobson, Roberts son-in-law, estimated that Roberts attended at least three Irish home football games in each of the last 70 seasons.

In addition to his love of Notre Dame football, Roberts was actively involved in the Punxsutawney community. He served as President of the Punxsutawney Area College Trust, the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce and was Chairmen of the Groundhog Festival Committee.

Surviving Roberts are his three daughters, his son, his sister, his two brothers, his 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
