Monogram Club Hosts Lacrosse Final Four Pre-Game Tailgate

May 29, 2012

FOXBORO, Mass. –

As part of the Monogram Club’s 2011-12 regional outreach initiative, the organization hosted a pre-game tailgate for Monogram winners prior to the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team’s national semifinal game against Loyola (Md.) Saturday afternoon in Foxboro, Mass.

More than 50 Monogram winners and their families made the trip from their homes throughout New England and beyond to join fellow members and cheer on the Irish at the Renaissance Boston Patriot Place Hotel. The event, held on the sunny outdoor patio of the hotel, provided excellent views of nearby Gillette Stadium.

The Club offered a menu of tasty tailgate food for those in attendance, including bacon cheeseburgers, flatbread pizza, wings, and salad. After the reception, many of the attendees made the short trip to Gillette Stadium to watch the Irish take on Loyola. Notre Dame fell to the eventual national champion Greyhounds, 7-5.

Monogram Club regional representative for New England Rob Williamson (’93, lacrosse) took part in the Club’s tailgate and was joined by former teammates Doug Murray (’92), Pete Senger (’93), Chris Bury (’95) and Mike Maroney (’96). Senger and Williamson were roommates at Notre Dame with former goaltender and Monogram Club board member Chris Parent (’93).

“It’s a great excuse to see old friends, meet new ones, and get integrated with the local alumni clubs,” Williamson said. “Seeing my old teammates brings back a lot of great memories. Now, it’s a treat to meet families, see our kids meet theirs, and create a whole new generation of Irish fans.”

The lacrosse pre-game reception is part of the Monogram Club’s regional outreach program intended to help Monogram winners bridge the gap between legend and legacy outside of the confines of Notre Dame. The initiative began with tailgates in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area in 2010 for basketball and lacrosse events. Since those pilot events, the Club has hosted football pre-game receptions in New York City (2010) and Washington, D.C. (2011), men’s basketball pre-game events in Tampa (2011) and Philadelphia (2012), and women’s basketball Final Four tailgates in Indianapolis (2011) and Denver (2012).

It should be noted that Notre Dame teams are an impressive 8-1 in games held after a Monogram Club regional reception.

The Monogram Club will continue the successful program throughout 2012-13 to reach out to its membership in other regions of the country.
