More than 100 Monogram winners and their guests braved the effects of a frigid winter day in South Bend to attend the Club’s annual Alumni Sports Weekend Reception on Jan. 14 at the Schivarelli Football Players’ Lounge.

The function in Notre Dame Stadium included lunch and refreshments while providing a way for returning athletic alumni to gather and socialize after an exciting weekend of Irish athletics.

A number of members enjoyed the hockey game versus 10th-ranked Western Michigan Friday night in the Compton Family Ice Arena, as well as the men’s basketball contest against No. 16 Connecticut on Saturday morning.

“The weather can be a bit tough here in South Bend during the winter, so to get some of our members to come back and some of our local members to join us is pretty special,” Monogram Club president Dick Nussbaum (’74, ’77, baseball) said. “There’s an excellent turnout for this fellowship opportunity – it’s been a great afternoon.”

During the reception, Monogram Club members and their guests also enjoyed the opportunity to tour the football locker room and make the journey past the “Play Like A Champion Today” sign onto the field.

The annual Alumni Sports Weekend, held in conjunction with the Notre Dame Alumni Association’s schedule of activities, kicks off the spring schedule of events for the Monogram Club.

The Club’s next outreach initiative is a regional reception in Philadelphia, Pa., on Feb. 18 prior to the men’s basketball game between Villanova and Notre Dame. For more information on the event, call (574) 631-8476.
