Monaghan Nabs First Team All-ACC Honors

April 27, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — University of Notre Dame men’s tennis junior Quentin Monaghan has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team, the league announced Monday.

Monaghan, who ranks ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles poll, has amassed a 20-3 dual match record atop the Irish lineup this season, including a 10-2 mark in ACC play, and has steadily ascended the national ranks each week. From March 15 to April 10, Monaghan won 12 straight matches, including wins over the No. 3, No. 11 and No. 12 players in the country at the time.

Including fall tournament play, Monaghan owns an overall singles record of 29-6 and a 15-4 record against nationally ranked opponents. He has also posted a 13-7 doubles record with various partners.

It is the second All-ACC selection for Monaghan, who made the conference’s third team a season ago, and the third all-conference selection of his career. He was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year in 2013.

“We couldn’t be more happy for Quentin,” Irish head coach Ryan Sachire said. “There are so many great players in the ACC and it’s truly an honor for Q to be recognized in that company.  One of the major pillars of our program is to focus on the process of improvement every day and to allow results and accolades such as this to simply be a by-product of the work that one puts into his tennis. Quentin certainly lives that philosophy and is one of the hardest workers in the history of Fighting Irish tennis.

“His level of play has consistently improved throughout his time at Notre Dame, and he has taken his game to a spot that is among the very elite in the country. Quentin is in the midst of creating a great legacy at Notre Dame, and we are extremely proud of who he is and how he represents our program.”

Monaghan and the Irish will learn their NCAA tournament destination at 5:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday during the NCAA Men’s Tennis DI Selection Show. Regional competition will take place May 8 and 9 with advancing teams and individuals competing at the NCAA Championships May 14-25 in Waco, Texas.
