Miller And Rellas Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame men’s soccer players Ryan Miller (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Cory Rellas (Plano, Texas/Plano West) have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V men’s soccer team. Their names will now appear on the national ballot for a chance to be voted as Academic All-Americans.

Miller, a fifth-year senior, graduated from the Mendoza College of Business in May of 2007 with an accounting degree and a final cumulative grade point average of 3.409. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in accounting. This season, Miller has put up career-best numbers in goals (6) and points (15). His six goals tie him for the team lead in that category. Miller, a midfielder/defender, has started every match this season.

Rellas carries a 3.634 cumulative GPA as a finance and history major. The junior central defender has started all 17 games this season and has been an integral part in the Irish posting eight shutouts. Rellas, who was named the BIG EAST defensive player of the week on Oct. 8, has tallied one goal this season. Last season, Rellas earned the team’s Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Rockne Student-Athlete Award.

Joining the Fighting Irish duo on the Academic All-District V squad were goalkeeper Chay Cain (Indiana); midfielders Mike Lewis (Eastern Illinois) and Zeke Dombrowski (Wisconsin-Milwaukee); defenders Todd Reedy (Bradley), Drew Ratner (Northwestern), Malcolm DeBaun (Loyola-Chicago) and Adam Gartner (Eastern Illinois); forwards Victor Diaz (Wisconsin), Markian Zyga (Loyola-Chicago) and Eric Weigman (IUPUI).

Notre Dame (10-3-4) is ranked ninth the latest NSCAA/adidas poll. The Fighting Irish, who are in first place in the BIG EAST Blue Division, will wrap up the regular season at Georgetown on Saturday. Game time is slated for 12 noon (ET).
