Senior Chris Cahill has been named the BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week five times during his career.

Miller And Cahill Earn Weekly Honors For Second-Ranked Irish

Sept. 24, 2007

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Seniors Ryan Miller (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Chris Cahill (Louisville, Ky./DeSales) have earned accolades for helping the Notre Dame men’s soccer team to two shutout victories in BIG EAST play over the weekend. Miller was named to the College Soccer News national team of the week, while Cahill was selected as the BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week.

The Irish defeated Rutgers 2-0 on Friday (Sept. 21) and followed that performance with a 1-0 triumph of Villanova on Sunday (Sept. 23) to move to 5-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the BIG EAST. Notre Dame has registered three straight shutouts in conference play. The current run by the Fighting Irish has the team ranked No. 2 in this week’s Soccer America and College Soccer News polls. That marks the highest national ranking in program history.

Miller, a midfielder/defender, notched a career-best three-point match in the win over Rutgers. He assisted on the first goal of the game in the 35th minute and then scored in the 65th minute to put the game away. Miller’s four points this season, on one goal and two assists, is tied for the third-most on the team.

Cahill was tabbed as the BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week after recording shutout victories against Rutgers and Villanova. The senior made four saves in the win over the Scarlet Knights and then had three stops against the Wildcats to earn his 22nd career shutout. He carries a 0.39 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage this season.

This is the second such honor for Cahill in 2007. He was named the conference’s goalkeeper of the week on Sept. 1 following a victory over No. 1 UCLA. Cahill has received four weekly honors from the BIG EAST during his career.

Notre Dame will carry its five-game unbeaten streak into two weekend home tilts against BIG EAST foes. The Irish take on Cincinnati on Friday at 7:00 p.m. (ET) and then face Louisville on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Notre Dame is 3-0 in BIG EAST competition for the first time since joining the league in 1995.
