Miles tabbed as preseason All-American by The Athletic

Another day, another preseason honor for Notre Dame sophomore Olivia Miles.

On Wednesday, The Athletic named the 5-10 point guard a First Team All-American heading into the 2022-23 women’s basketball season. Miles received a total of 25 votes, making her the fourth-highest vote-getter in the nation. Joining Miles on the First Team is Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, Stanford’s Haley Jones and Connecticut’s Azzi Fudd.

“Miles became the first men’s or women’s player in NCAA Tournament history to record a triple-double as a freshman, recording 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists against UMass in her tournament debut,” managing editor Shannon Ryan said. “A player with a hot hand in the NCAA Tournament is exactly what Irish fans are craving as they hope to make a deep run. Miles, a sophomore, has the court vision and scoring ability to take Notre Dame far. She and Clark were the only players to average 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists last season.”

The Phillipsburg, N.J., native led Notre Dame with 13.7 points, 7.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game last year. She posted eight games with double-digit assists last season, while no other ACC player had more than one contest with 10+. Miles scored in double figures 30 times. As a result of her jaw-dropping performances throughout the season, Miles was the only freshman named to the All-ACC First Team.

In addition to the most recent honor, Miles has already been named to the Preseason All-ACC First Team and is a member of the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List, which ultimately honors the country’s best point guard.

Notre Dame hosts Truman State on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. for an exhibition contest, and the Irish formally open the season against Northern Illinois at Purcell Pavilion on Nov. 7.
