NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Mike Harrity, associate athletics director for community relations and outreach at the University of Kansas, has been named associate athletics director for student-athlete development and community programming at the University of Notre Dame.

Harrity will oversee all student-athlete welfare and development programs for Notre Dame athletics and also will oversee all youth community outreach and summer camp programming. He replaces Charmelle Green, who resigned last summer to become associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Penn State University. Harrity will begin his duties Dec. 1.

“I am honored and humbled to join the Notre Dame athletics department,” Harrity said. “I am excited to work under the visionary leadership of Jack Swarbrick and Missy Conboy and to collaborate with the entire athletics department staff to help make a positive, meaningful impact on our student-athletes, campus and the surrounding community.”

At Kansas, Harrity most recently was responsible for developing, coordinating and executing the Kansas athletics staff’s community involvement, outreach and relationship-building at the local and regional level. Additionally, he led the effort of relationship-building and outreach to former student-athletes who have achieved success in professional athletics and business.

Prior to that role, Harrity served as the Kansas associate athletics director for marketing, revenue development and game-day experience, where his duties included administering the sales, marketing, promotions and game-day experience departments. In his previous position, Harrity served as the Kansas assistant athletic director for student-athlete development and community relations from 2004-10. In that role, Harrity’s responsibilities included designing and implementing all personal development educational programming, serving as the advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and directing the community outreach plan for the athletics department.

Additionally, Harrity developed and led the Jayhawk Leadership Program. The mission of the leadership program is to prepare student-athletes for leadership positions and empower them to enact positive change within their individual teams, within the department and across the entire campus.

In addition to his responsibilities at Kansas, Harrity served as a facilitator at NCAA Leadership Conferences and directed the curriculum and planning for the inaugural Big 12 Conference Leadership Summit in July 2010.

Before coming to Kansas in 2004, Harrity served as coordinator of student services, life skills and academic counseling for the University of Minnesota athletics program. He previously worked as a graduate assistant from 2000-02 at Kansas with the Jayhawk Job Network and served as an academic advisor for walk-on freshman football student-athletes.

A 1999 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in journalism, Harrity went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Kansas in 2002.

Harrity and his wife Megan are parents of a daughter Grace.
