NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Mike Brey will be honored Friday evening, May 16, alongside Alabama football coach Nick Saban and Indiana men’s basketball coach Tom Crean, at the ninth annual Dick Vitale Gala that benefits The V Foundation for Cancer Research. This year’s event will take place at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Fla.

Net proceeds from evening will be awarded to pediatric cancer research and related programs through The V Foundation.

Last year’s Dick Vitale Gala raised more than $1.7 million for pediatric cancer research, bringing the event’s total to more than $10 million in its eight-year history. The event routinely draws notable celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment, including many NCAA men’s basketball coaches.

Brey has long been a staunch supporter in the fight against cancer and has had a longtime standing association with the Coaches vs. Cancer Program. He and his wife Tish have raised more than $2 million dollars for the South Bend/Michiana community over the past 14 years.

Members of the Notre Dame coaching staff and community as well as Brey’s family and friends are expected to be in attendance on Friday evening. In addition, several former Fighting Irish basketball players will be there as well, including Matt Carroll (1999-2003), Pat Garrity (1994-98), Ryan Humphrey (2000-02), Rob Kurz (2004-08) and Chris Quinn (2002-06).

The evening will begin with a “Celebrity Meet & Greet Private Pre-Party” at 6:30 p.m. and include after-party entertainment featuring the Four Tops.
