PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — Notre Dame women’s tennis senior All-American and 18th-ranked Michelle Dasso defeated 68th-ranked Anna Monhartova of Tulane 6-3, 6-4 in the second round but then lost her second match on Friday at the Riviera Women’s All-American Championships, the second leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association grand slam, at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Dasso lost her quarterfinal match to Stanford’s 11th-ranked Laura Kalvaria by a 6-2, 6-4 score.

Dasso had beaten third-seeded and fourth-ranked Kristina Kraszewski of Washington in the first round on Thursday. The quarterfinal finish continues a strong fall season for the Irish senior captain, who also advanced to the final of the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court Championships in September, the first leg of the ITA grand slam. The first Irish women’s tennis player to reach a grand slam final with that finish, Dasso will wrap up her fall season at the ITA Midwest Singles and Doubles Championships in two weeks.

In a first-round doubles match played late Thursday night, Mississippi’s Julie DeRoo and Mira Radu, Mississippi defeated fourth-seeded Dasso and junior Becky Varnum 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The Irish was slated to play in the doubles consolation late Friday night.
