Michael Thomas Signs With Halmstads BK Of Swedish Top Division

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former Notre Dame men’s soccer standout Michael Thomas (Olathe, Kan.) has recently signed with Halmstads BK in Sweden. Thomas (class of `10) joins his former Irish teammate Ryan Miller (`08) on the squad, which is in the Swedish top division, Allsvenskan.

Thomas, a central midfielder, is coming off a senior campaign at Notre Dame in which he earned first-team all-BIG EAST accolades as was named an Academic All-American. He also was a two-time All-Great Lakes Region selection. Thomas started every game this past season and notched a team-high six assists along with scoring six goals.

The two-time team captain played in 83 career matches with the Fighting Irish and tallied 51 points on 19 goals and 13 assists. The San Jose Earthquakes selected Thomas in the second round (19th overall selection) of January’s 2010 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.

Miller copped an All-America citation during his senior season at Notre Dame in 2007. In addition, he garnered first-team all-BIG EAST honors and was tabbed an Academic All-American. Miller, a wide midfielder/defender, played in a program record 91 games during his Fighting Irish career. He registered 25 points on seven goals and 11 assists.

The Columbus Crew picked Miller in the third round (31st overall selection) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. Miller signed with Halmstads this past January after playing with Lungskile in the Swedish second division.

Thomas and Miller will begin their 2010 Allsvenskan campaign on March 14th when Hamlstads plays host to Trelleborgs.
