Lebedev Earns ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. — After a stellar week on the court which included two wins over top-15 teams, the University of Notre Dame men’s tennis senior Alex Lebedev has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week as announced Tuesday.

Lebedev helped was integral in No. 13 Notre Dame’s 4-3 victory over No. 12 Virginia Friday night for their first ACC win of the season. In their home-opener, Lebedev took the first set in singles before the Cavaliers’ Nakashima stole the second to force the decisive third. In dramatic fashion, Lebedev came back in the third after dropping the first few games to take the third point for the team, winning his final set 7-5.

In the first match of Sunday’s double header, he defeated 89th-ranked Juan Carlos Aguilar of No. 14 Texas A&M in straight sets 7-6(1), 6-1 to secure an Irish victory and improve the team’s record to 5-0 while posting an individual singles record of 4-0 through the weekend.

The honor is Lebedev’s first of the season and third of his career, having won in back-to-back weeks last season (January 23 & 30, 2018). He was also named to the ACC Doubles Team of the Week once last year (January 23, 2018).
