Men's Swimming Starts Spring Semester On The Road

Jan. 9, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s swimming team wrapped up the fall semester on the road at a Big Ten foe – and that’s precisely how they’ll start the spring semester as well. The Irish return from a team training trip in Puerto Rico to face Michigan and Northwestern in a tri-dual meet Saturday, with an exhibition tower diving event scheduled for Friday evening.

“Our guys are anxious to race for the first time since the Hawkeye Invitational,” head coach Matt Tallman says. “Both teams present different challenges for us, especially coming directly from a training trip.”

The annual excursion to Puerto Rico has been a part of the Irish season for many years, giving the team an opportunity to train outdoors at a time when campus is normally blanketed with snow.

The Irish finished second at the Hawkeye Invitational, losing by merely half of a point to host Iowa. Multiple Irish swimmers earned NCAA cut times at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center, giving the coaching staff a preview of things to come in the second half of the season.

“This meet will be a good test for the guys, to see where we are at as a team. It will also help the coaching staff make our final decisions for the ACC Championship travel team,” Tallman states.

The Irish will kick off at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, starting with the 200 medley relay. Live results can be found as well as on meet mobile.
