Men's Swimming Defeats Western Ontario 136-64

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s swimming team improved to 5-2 on the season with a 136-64 dual-meet win over Western Ontario. The Irish won eight events on the evening en route to the victory.

The Irish started the evening by winning the 400 medley relay as the team of Dean Wolf, David Moisan, Frank Krakowski and Andrew Pittman touched the wall in 2:26.13.

Notre Dame sophomore Lucas Wymore led a 1-2-3 Irish finish in the 1,000 freestyle in a winning time of 9:59.06. Elliott Drury was second in 10:02.92, while John Hudson was third in 10:37.36.

Senior Austin Anderson won the third event of the evening for the Irish, the 200 freestyle, in a time of 1:45.74. Moisan was second in 1:45.79, while Pittman was third in 1:48.81.

In the 200 individual medley, Irish sophomore Matt Obringer captured the fourth title of the evening in a time of 2:01.65. Josh Dermott was third in 2:03.20.

After winning the 400 medley relay, freshman Frank Krakowski continued his fine fall season with a win in the 200 butterfly. Krakowski’s winning time was 1:59.57. Wymore followed Krakowsi, finishing in 2:00.46, while Brian Coughlan was third in 2:03.42.

David Horak swam into victory lane with a win in the 100 freestyle. Horak’s time of 47.80 just edged Western Ontario’s Matt Wood (48.07). Wolf was third in 49.25.

Drury claimed his first win of the night, placing first in the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:51.25. Junior Michael Flanagan was second in 4:56.42 and Travis Kline was third in 5:11.57.

After placing third in the 200 individual medley, Dermott gained Notre Dame’s final race win of the evening, coming back to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.67. Freshman Matthew Englehardt was second in 2:22.86.

The Irish return to the water Friday night against TCU. Meet time is 5:00 p.m. at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
