Men's Swimming And Diving Takes Second-Consecutive Dual Meet With Victory Over Kalamazoo

The University of Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team improved to 2-1 on the season with a dual meet victory over Kalamazoo at the Rolfs Aquatic Center, Friday evening. The Irish were led once again by the diving contingent, who have not lost in dual meet competition this season.

Senior Herb Huesman (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the three-meter event with 298.65 points, then exhibitioned in the three-meter event (where he posted 324.95 points). Sophomore Tony Xie (Granger, Ind.) won the one-meter event for the Irish with 258.89 points.

The 400 medley relay team of senior Greg Juszli (Hudson, Ohio), Dan Szilier (Norristown, Pa.), (junior) David Horak (Dumfries, Va.) and senior Austin Anderson (Indianapolis, Ind.) got the swimmers off on the right track, capturing the first event of the meet in 3:34.71. Sophomore Clay Miller (Mead, Wa.) followed the relay win with a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (9:47.66) to continue the winning trends for the Irish.

Jonathan Pierce (Newburgh, Ind.) won the 200 Individual Medley (1:58.73), freshman Matt Obringer (Jacksonville, Fla.) captured the 200 backstroke (2:01.99), classmate J.R. Teddy (Spring, Texas) took first in the 500 freestyle (4:43.14) and junior Mike Koss (Aurora, Col.) finished out the Irish individual winners with a victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.34).

Next up for the Irish is a dual meet with Oakland in Rochester, Mich., on Nov. 3.
