Mohamed Omar vs. Indiana

Omar Selected To Train With U-20 Canadian National Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame freshman Mohamed Omar has been selected to join the Canadian U-20 National Team in training for the 2018 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship in Bradenton, Florida, at IMG Academy.

“I am thrilled for Mo, he has certainly earned this honor and I am very happy for him,” said Notre Dame men’s soccer head coach Chad Riley.

Omar was one of five players selected by Andrew Olivieri, Canada Soccer’s Men’s EXCEL U-20 Program Director, to train with the team before the competition. The five players will train with Canada through Oct. 30 before the team departs for Bradenton.

Omar has made an impact in his debut season with the Irish, playing in 14 matches while earning five starts. The defensive midfielder has excelled in breaking up attacking threats from the opposition while helping spring counter attacks. Omar has one assist on the season, coming in a victory over UConn.

The 2018 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship is the tournament used to determine qualifiers to next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland 2019.
