Men's Lacrosse Drops 12-2 Decision To No. 3 Loyola

NOTRE DAME , Ind. – Mike Battista and Bobby Horsey scored three goals each to lead third-ranked Loyola to a 12-2 win at 14th-ranked Notre Dame. The win was the 10th for the Greyhounds in as many meetings between the two teams, The two goals scored by the Irish, now 3-2 on the season, represented the second fewest by a Notre Dame team in the 19-year history of the program .

The fewest goals scored by the Irish was in a 9-1 losing effort to Penn State in 1989.

The Greyhounds, who improved to 4-0 on the season, scored eight goals second-quarter goals. After leading 2-0 following the first 15-minute stanza, Horsey tallied three times and was one of six different goal scorers as the Greyhounds opened up a 10-0 halftime lead.

In addition to their three goals, Horsey and Battista added two assists each. David Fields also scored twice in the contest.

Notre Dame finally got on the scoreboard with 1:30 remaining in the third quarter on a Chris Young’s (Camillus, N.Y.) score off a Todd Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) assist. The Irish held Loyola scoreless in the third quarter.

Loyola scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter before John Flandina (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied the game’s final score.

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday, March 25 at home when the Irish host Hofstra at 1:00 p.m.
