SALEM, S.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team shot a 10-over par 298 and is tied for eighth after the first round of play at the Clemson Invitational, which is being played at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls (par 72/7,103 yards).

Junior Matthew Rushton led the Irish with an even-par 72 and is tied for 11th after the first day of play. He turned in a steady round that included two birdies and two bogeys to go along with 14 pars. He is five strokes off the lead.

Junior Blake Barens shot a two-over par 74 and is tied for 28th. He mixed three birdies and 11 pars into his first round to go along with three bogeys and a double.

Freshmen Ben Albin and Miguel Delgado also scored for the Irish. Albin carded a three-over par 75. He had birdies on the first, 10th and 16th holes. Delgado shot a five-over par 77, including birdies on the par-3 seventh and the par-5 16th.

Sophomore Thomas Steve shot a 14-over par 86 to round out the Irish lineup.

The hosts from Clemson (276) lead on the team leaderboard, followed by Louisville (285). After posting a first round 67, Clemson’s Austin Langdale is in first on the individual leaderboard.

The second round of the tournament will be played tomorrow, April 2, while the final round will take place on April 3. Live scoring will be provided by Golfstat.
