STATESBORO, Ga. –The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team concluded the second round of the 54-hole E-Z Go Schenkel Invitational Saturday afternoon on the par-72 Forest Heights Country Club course (6,947 yards) with a 36-hole team total of a 19-over-par-604 (297-307), landing the Irish in 15th place.

Paul McNamara III captured the best round of the day for the Irish as the senior finished the second day with an even-par 72, giving him a 36-hole total of a five-over-par 149 going into the final round Sunday. After beginning with a bogey on the first hole (par 4), McNamara fired even-par or better through the next 15 holes and led the Irish with four birdies on the day. McNamara improved his position on the leaderboard to 37th place after starting the day tied for 69th.

Freshman Cory Sciupider, who is playing unattached for the Irish, is currently in third place among the unrepresented golfers with a 36-hole total of 149 (76-73) joining teammate McNamara in 37th place overall.

Niall Platt currently holds the highest position on the leaderboard for the Irish as the junior is tied for 26th place. Platt battled in his closing five holes to rack up a one-under-par after birdieing the final hole (par 5) on the front nine. Platt closed out the day with a three-over-par 75 for a two-round total of a three-over-par 147.

Junior Andrew Lane (T-63rd) wrapped up the second day with a six-over-par 78. Lane got into a rhythm over the final six holes of the opening nine as he gathered in three birdies for a two-under-par score at the break before switching to the front nine.

Sophomore Tyler Wingo finalized his second round with a 10-over-par 82 to land in 76th place. Wingo birdied the 18th hole (par 5) and shot even-par through the final five holes of the first nine holes he faced. Sophomore Peyton Vitter carded a 13-over-par 85 and will start day three in 84th place. Vitter tallied a total of eight pars on the day leading with a series of three from holes 10-12.

No. 4 Alabama holds the top spot on the team leaderboard with a 13-under-par 563, followed by No. 6 Texas (280-285-565) and No. 8 Florida (285-296-581). The Crimson Tide hold the top two positions on the player leaderboard as Justin Thomas sits first (67-70-137) followed by Bobby Wyatt in second (70-70-140).

The Irish will begin the third and final round of the E-Z Go Schenkel Invitational tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
