Men's Golf Named to GCAA All-Academic Team

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team was named to the 2012 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team earlier this week.

To be eligible for the GCAA All-Academic Team, Division I schools are required to submit the individual GPAs of each player on a team’s official roster during a given academic year. 124 teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher received 2012 All-Academic Team honors.

Departing senior Tom Usher was also selected as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the second consecutive season. Eligibility for the award includes the achievement of junior or senior class distinction, completion of three full years of collegiate competition, participation in 70 percent of a team’s competitive rounds or the NCAA Championships, a stroke average lower than 76.0 and a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater. Prospective student-athletes are expected to be of high moral character in good standing with his respective college or university. A total of 149 golfers received 2012 All-America Scholar status.

Usher (Baildon, England/Guiseley School) appeared in a career-high 11 tournaments in 2011-12, posting a scoring average of 75.86. Usher was the medalist at the Battle of Warren (68-72-140) and recorded a personal-best single round score of 65 (-6) during the second round of his 34th-place finish (79-65-73-217) at the NCAA Central Regional.
