John Felitto Leads Field at Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 13th Annual Fighting Irish Classic began at the Warren Golf Course on Sunday, as the strong 15-team field played 36 holes over a 10-hour day. The Notre Dame men’s golf team carded a 279 (-5) in round one, then improved to a 277 (-7) in round two.

As a result, the Irish moved to 12-under par, which ties Iowa for fifth place. Meanwhile, Iowa State (-15), North Carolina (-18), Georgia Southern (-25) and Illinois (-30) occupy the top-four spots.

Individually, Notre Dame’s own John Felitto sits atop the leaderboard at 12-under par. Felitto carded a 64 (-7) in round one, followed by a 66 (-5) in round two, leading Bryan Baumgarten of Illinois by two strokes.

ROUND ONE
Davis Chatfield and Hunter Ostrom each carded a 69 (-2) in round one, as the latter strung together three straight birdies on holes 15-17. Andrew O’Leary also finished under par with a 79 (-1), while Miguel Delgado rounded out the team scoring with a 71 (E).

Felitto had just one blemish in the first round with a bogey on the par-three ninth hole, but roared back with five birdies on the back-nine for his seven-under par round.

ROUND 2
Chatfield once again led for the Irish in round two, posting a 68 (-3). The sophomore recorded an unblemished back-nine in which he went four-under par. Next, Delgado produced a memorable moment when he holed out his second shot on the par-four sixth, which helped him finish three-under on the front-nine. Delgado went on to score a 69 (-2) for the round.

In addition, O’Leary and Kevin Conners each rounded out the scoring with a 70 (-1).

Lastly, Chatfield sits in 14th place overall at five-under par, followed by both Delgado and O’Leary at two-under in 19th place.
