Irish Return to Action at The Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga. – After a three-week hiatus from competition, the Notre Dame men’s golf team will return to action at the 40th annual Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern. The Fighting Irish will be making their eighth all-time appearance at The Schenkel, which commences on Friday, March 15. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
 
Last year, the Irish finished in seventh place, while John Felitto and Ben Albin led the way with top-12 finishes, carding a 211 (-5) and 213 (-3), respectively.
 
The Irish head into the Schenkel after enjoying their team spring break trip through Florida and Georgia. Notre Dame soaked in the sights and sounds at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, before playing rounds at the Isleworth Country Club, Lake Nona Golf & Country Club and Ohoopee Match Club.
 
The Course
The tournament will once again be played at the Forest Heights Country Club. The course plays as a 6,962-yard par 72.
 
The Schedule
The tournament will consist of three rounds with one round per day. Friday’s round will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET off tees one and 10. Saturday will begin at 9 a.m. ET. Sunday’s championship round will start at 8:30 a.m.   
 
The Field
The 14-team field consists of UAB, UCF, College of Charleston, ETSU, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, Maryland, Middle Tennessee State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.
 
The Irish Five
The Irish lineup will consist of Miguel Delgado, Davis Lamb, Taichi Kho, Ben Albin and Andrew O’Leary. In addition, Kevin Conners will be competing as an individual. Delgado and Lamb remain as the only two Irish players to compete in every tournament this season.
 
Of the group Delgado boasts the lowest season stroke average with 72.06. Taichi Kho posted the best showing in Notre Dame’s lone tournament of the spring, carding a 73.00 at The Prestige. Davis Lamb and Andrew O’Leary possess two top-25 finishes on the year. Meanwhile, Ben Albin will be competing in just his second tournament of the season.
