Irish Finish Saturday in Third Place at Northern Intercollegiate

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team played its first one-and-a-half rounds on Saturday of the Northern Intercollegiate at the Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course. After ending the first round in sixth place with a 299 (+11), the Irish surged in the second round, ending the day in third place at nine-over par. Important to note that the second round ended early, with Notre Dame on holes 13-15.
 
First Round
Davis Chatfield led the Irish starting five in the first round with a 74 (+2). The sophomore suffered a stretch of four straight bogeys from holes 7-10, but steadied the course with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18.
 
Davis Lamb and Miguel Delgado each shot a 75 (+3), while Taichi Kho rounded out team scoring with a 76 (+4).  
 
Furthermore, Notre Dame’s two individual competitors, Kevin Conners and Hunter Ostrom, each posted solid rounds at 74 and 73, respectively.
 
Second Round
Speaking of Ostrom, the junior carried his momentum into the second round, playing bogey-free golf for the first seven holes while racking up three birdies along the way. Ostrom had a minor setback with consecutive bogeys on holes three and four but bounced back with back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven.
 
With four holes left to play, Ostrom was three-under when the round was called. He now sits tied for third at two-under, just one stroke behind the leader.
 
Delgado started on the back-nine with two birdies on the first three holes, then an eagle on the par-5 18th, making the turn at two-under. Delgado then rifled off six straight pars before his round was ended with three holes remaining, two-under on the round. As a result, Delgado jumped 23 spots to 13th place.
 
Lamb posted three birdies to end his shortened round one-under par, jumping 16 spots to 20th place. Andrew O’Leary nabbed four birdies to end his shortened second round one-under as well.
