Men’s DMR Team And Tanczos Named ACC Track And Field Performers Of The Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame track and field program picked up two more awards on Wednesday as the men’s distance medley relay team was named ACC Track Performers of the Week and Rachel Tanczos was named ACC Field Performer of the Week as each had record-setting performances at the Alex Wilson Invitational. This is the DMR team’s first time and Tanczos’ fourth time earning the honor this season.

The Irish DMR team of Dylan Jacobs (1200), Edward Cheatham (400), Sam Voelz (800) and Yared Nuguse (1600) won the race last Saturday in a photo finish with a time of 9:25.80. That time was a program record, track record, ACC record and the second-fastest time ever recorded in NCAA indoor track and field history.

Tanczos continued her tremendous season as she broke her own program record in the weight throw for the fourth time this season with a distance of 23.31m, placing her first in the country in the event. The throw also ranks Tanczos 11th in NCAA indoor track and field history for the event.

The Irish are set to host the ACC Championships this week with action starting on Thursday, Feb. 27 and concluding on Saturday, Feb. 29.
