Men's Tennis To Compete In National Team Indoor Championships

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 9 Notre Dame men’s tennis team will travel to Chicago, Ill. this week to take part in the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championships at the Midtown Tennis Club.

The Irish (6-1), appearing in the tournament for the first time since the 2002 season, are scheduled to open play Friday at noon, taking on No. 10 Pepperdine. It will mark the second time that Notre Dame and the Waves will meet in the National Team Indoor Championships. The Irish upended Pepperdine, 4-3, during the 2002 season.

If Notre Dame was to win, they would take on the winner of the match between #1 Georgia and #64 Penn Saturday at noon. Notre Dame is guaranteed to play matches on Friday and Saturday and will advance to Monday’s final if the Irish win each of their first three contests.

Four teams on Notre Dame’s 2007 dual-match schedule are in the field: Virginia, Illinois, Duke and Ohio State. Also making the tournament is Texas, Mississippi, Boise State, UCLA, Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma State, Baylor and Stanford.

Notre Dame participated in the tournament over six consecutive years from 1991-96, finishing tied for sixth in 1993, and have an overall record of 9-14. See year-by-year results below:
