NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team is set to host the 2010 USTA/ITA Midwest Regional from Thurs., Oct. 21 to Mon., Oct. 25. Competition will take place at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind., and the Lakeland Tennis Club in South Bend, Ind.

The tournament will begin Thursday with a 64-member qualifying singles draw. The top-eight finishers will advance to the main draw, beginning Friday.

Spencer Talmadge (Hillsborough, Calif./Junipero Serra) will represent the Irish in the qualifying draw, taking on Chris Cheung of Detroit at 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

The main draw competition will commence Friday morning. Competing in the singles main draw for Notre Dame will be seniors David Anderson (Sandwich, Ma./Sandwich), Tyler Davis (Nashville, Tenn./Father Ryan) and Stephen Havens (Cincinnati, Ohio/Hill Christian) and juniors Sam Keeton (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill) and Casey Watt (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland).

Rounding out the main draw are sophomores Michael Moore (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Blas Moros (Boca Raton, Fla./Pine Crest) and freshmen Greg Andrews (Richland, Mich./Gull Lake) and Billy Pecor (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral).

All 18 members of the Notre Dame squad will participate in the doubles draw, beginning Friday.

Watt was Notre Dame’s top finisher last season at the ITA Midwest Regional, defeating Illinois’ Dennis Nevolo in the semifinals before dropping a 6-1, 7-6 (1) decision to Wisconsin’s Moritz Baumann.
