Men's Tennis Falls to Texas A&M In Second Round

MONTGOMERY, Ala. The 26th-ranked Notre Dame men’s tennis team dropped a 5-1 match to fourth-seeded and 19th-ranked Texas A&M in the second round of the Blue-Gray National Classic in Montgomery, Ala. The loss snapped a seven-match winning streak for the 11-5 Irish and sent them into a consolation match against Tulane on Saturday. The Green Wave lost 4-1 to top-seeded Illinois on Friday.

Irish junior All-American Ryan Sachire, the second-ranked singles player in the country, captured Notre Dame’s only point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Shuon Madden at No. 1 singles. The Aggies won in straight sets at Nos. 3-6 singles to reach the semifinal against Illinois. Irish freshman Andrew Laflin lost his first dual match at No. 4 singles as he fell 6-2, 6-2 to Keith From.

Texas A&M started the match by winning two of three doubles match to win the point. Madden and From beat Sachire and Brian Patterson 8-5 at No. 1 doubles. Cody Hubbell and Gonzalo Anderson clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Aaron Talarico and Andy Warford at No. 3 doubles. Notre Dame’s Trent Miller and Javier Taborga beat Brent Horan and Jarin Skube 9-8 (1) at No. 2 doubles.
