NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The 29th-ranked Notre Dame men’s tennis team lost the doubles point and won just two singles in falling 5-2 to 32nd-ranked Miami (Fla.) on Sunday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Senior All-American Ryan Sachire and sophomore Andrew Laflin each won in singles for Notre Dame’s two points. The loss snaps a four-match winning streak for the 5-3 Irish, while Miami improves to 7-0 with the win. Notre Dame returns to action against 59th-ranked Purdue on Sat., Feb. 26 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
The Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead after doubles with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Mike Lang and Jose Lieberman clinched the doubles point with a 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 2 doubles over Trent Miller and Sachire after saving two sets points while serving at 6-7.
Laflin cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mark Arrowsmith at No. 6 singles to tie the match at 1-1. Sachire then improved to 20-6 in singles this year after beating Tomas Smid 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The Irish briefly led 2-1 before the Hurricanes won in straight sets at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles in that order to clinch the win.
