Men's Tennis Continues Success At Tom Fallon Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Notre Dame men’s tennis team continued its success, registering twelve more victories Friday in the season opening Tom Fallon Invitational at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. Notre Dame’s Javier Taborga upset 68th-ranked Mark Williams of Baylor 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) in singles play and also won a doubles match paired with fellow junior James Malhame. Four other Irish players improved to 3-0 in singles play during the Tom Fallon Invitational. The event concludes Sunday with all ten teams in action. Notre Dame is scheduled to play at 1:30 p.m. against Michigan in the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Junior Casey Smith and freshman Luis Haddock-Morales each notched a third straight singles victory and the two combined for their third doubles win in as many days, 8-6 over Baylor’s Csonger Bibza and Reiner Neurohr. Haddock-Morales has dropped just 10 games in six singles sets in the tournament. Junior Andrew Laflin and sophomore Brian Farrell also registered singles victories for the third consecutive day. Other singles winners for Notre Dame were Chancey Martin and Ben Hatten.

In other doubles action, senior Ashok Raju and freshman Matt Scott combined for a victory over a Baylor doubles team. Other doubles winners were the team of Jake Cram and Ben Hatten and also Brian Farrell, who teamed with Rice’s Fabien Giraud for a win. With a perfect 5-0 record on Saturday in doubles matches, Notre Dame improved to 13-3 in doubles action at the Tom Fallon Invitational.
