Men's Tennis Concludes The Second Day Of the USTA/ITA Midwest Regional

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis concluded the second day of the five-day USTA/ITA Midwest Regional earning nine singles wins and six doubles wins at the Eck Tennis Pavillion in Notre Dame, Ind. and the Lakeland Athletic Center in Niles, Mich. Senior Daniel Stahl (Bethesda,Md./Walt Whitman) battled a 6-3, 6-7 (13), 6-4 match to defeat Stephen Hoh of Illinois.

Freshman Billy Pecor (Scottsdale,Ariz./Chaparral) dropped his first set 6-7 (6), before earning 6-1, 6-1 victories to win the match over Michigan State’s Ron Hulewicz.

Junior Niall Fitzgerald (Wicklow,Ireland/Blackrock College) defeated Otavio Perm of Marquette in a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Seniors Stephen Havens (Cincinnati,Ohio/Hill Christian) downed DePaul’s George Chanturia in a two-set match (6-3,6-3), while David Anderson (Sandwich,Mass./Sandwich) hit 6-1,6-4 over Alex Pelaez of Illinois State. Michael Moore (Glenview, Ill. Glenbrook South) posted a first set win of 6-4, before dropping the second set to Toledo’s Aleks Elezovic 6-7 (7), but battled back to win the match with a third set score of 6-4. Casey Watt (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) bested Spencer Wolff of Northwestern 6-3,7-5.

On the doubles side, senior captain Tyler Davis (Nashville, Tenn./Father Ryan) and Havens defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Cox and Gogolin 8-2.

Stahl and Greg Andrews (Richland,Mich/Gull Lake) earned a victory against Pfister and Bogatov of Michigan State in an 8-3 decision.

Also earning doubles victories for the Irish were the duo of Matt Johnson (Portage,Mich./Portage Central) and Sam Keeton (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill), as well as Moore and Ryan Bandy (Cincinnati,Ohio/St. Xavier). Watt and and Anderson bested Olivarez and Cullen of Western Michigan (8-1).
