MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A pair of Notre Dame doubles teams, including the No. 2 seeded duo of senior Ryan Keckley and junior Sheeva Parbhu, reached the round of 16 of the main draws in the 2006 ITA Midwest Championships on Saturday. The Irish also advanced three singles players into the second round.

Keckley and Parbhu had little trouble with Mikey Kantar and Raoul Schwark of Minnesota, 8-3. They will face No. 13 seeded Matko Maravic and George Navas of Michigan on Sunday. Sophomore Brett Helgeson and senior Barry King knocked off Juan Gomez and Christian Tempke of Northwestern, 8-4. They will play Adam Monich and Nick Rinks of Michigan State on Sunday.

King, No. 3 seed Stephen Bass and No. 2 seed Parbhu all advanced into the second round of singles action. King cruised past Jared Miller of Toledo, 6-3, 6-1. Bass defeated Jarrod Epkey of Ball State, 6-4, 6-4. Parbhu dropped the opening set, but rallied back for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Peter Aarts of Michigan.
