The University of Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team (1-1) dropped its first dual meet of the season at Air Force on Friday evening, as the Falcons defeated the Irish 178-120. It was just the second dual meet of the young season for Notre Dame and the team will remain in Colorado for the Notre Dame football game against Air Force and train during fall break.

Freshman Patrick Davis and the Irish diving corps supplied the highlights for Notre Dame. Davis won both distance freestyle events, taking the 1,000 in 10:03.42 and the 500 in 4:52.79. Classmate Tyler Grenda supplied the other swimming victory for Notre Dame, winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.40.

The Irish have always been strong in the distance events and off the diving boards throughout the last few years, and the pattern continued against the Falcons. Joe Miller stepped up and won the three-meter diving, finishing with 268.20 points. Teammate Tong Xie was third off the three-meter board, but came back to win one-meter diving with 247.73 points. Miller was third in the one-meter competition.

Notre Dame will be back in dual meet competition on Saturday, Nov. 9, against Western Ontario in the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
