Men's Swimming and Diving Kicks Off Season With The Notre Dame Relays Friday

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams kick off their 1999-2000 season Friday night with the Notre Dame Relays at 6:30 p.m. in the Rolfs Aquatic Center.

The relays, which are in their 35th year for the men and 16th year for the women, will include seven men’s teams and eight women’s teams from around the Midwest. On the men’s side, the Irish will face Xavier, Wabash, Illinois-Chicago, Valparaiso, Butler and Marquette. The Notre Dame women play host to Xavier, St. Mary’s, Illinois-Chicago, Valparaiso, Butler, Marquette and Illinois State, which is making its first appearance at the relays.

The meet will consist of 11 swimming and two diving events, beginning with the 200-yard freestyle relay and ending with three-meter diving.

The Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team is the three-time reigning BIG EAST champions, while the men were the BIG EAST runners-up at last year’s conference championships.
