Men's Swimming And Diving Defeated By Louisiana State

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The 19th-ranked Louisiana State Tigers won 10 of 13 events to defeat the visiting Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 137-98, in men’s swimming and diving action Saturday afternoon in Baton Rouge, La. With the loss, the Irish fell to 1-4 overall for the 1999-2000 dual meet season.

LSU was led by double-event winner Ken Kuhn, who won both the 50 and 100 freestyle, as the Tigers rolled up first-place finishes in the first 10 events before exhibitioning its swimmers and divers in the final three. The Irish received first-place points in the final three events with senior Herb Huesman winning the three-meter diving event with a score of 272.10, junior Dan Szilier picking up a win in the 100 breaststroke (58.87) and the 200 freestyle relay team of Ray Fitzpatrick, Rob Fetter, David Horak and Austin Anderson winning their event with a time of 1:27.37.

Earlier in the meet, Notre Dame earned runner-up finishes with Jonathan Pierce placing second in the 500 freestyle (9:39.62), freshman Clay Miller finishing second in the 200 individual medley (1:58.26) and Huesman tallying a second-place score of 280.37 in the one-meter diving event.

The Irish return home before heading back on the road to Cleveland State for a tri-meet with the Vikings and Niagara University, January 15 at 1 p.m.
