SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Needing a win or tie to advance to the 1999 BIG EAST Men’s Soccer Championship, Andrew Aris (Auckland, New Zealand) kicked in the game-tying goal off an assist from freshman Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany) as Notre Dame and Seton Hall battled to a 1-1 tie in South Orange, N.J. The Irish will be making their fourth straight appearance in the tournament having won the title in 1996.
Aris scored the goal at the 77:08 mark of the contest following Braun’s shot that rebounded off Pirate goalie Efren Aguirre. For the senior forward, it was his second goal of the season.
The tie gives Notre Dame an overall record of 8-8-3 and 4-5-2 mark in league. Seton Hall, which also earns a spot in the tournament, is now 9-7-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the league.
With the win, the Irish tie for eighth in the league’s final regular-season standings race with Providence, but earn the eighth seed over the Friars in the tournament by virtue of their 4-0 win during the regular season.
