Men's Soccer Falls To West Virginia, 1-0

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – West Virginia freshman Guido Cristofori scored the game’s only goal 12:19 into the contest as the Mountaineers downed Notre Dame 1-0 as the Irish suffered their second consecutive 1-0 setback.

Cristofori provided the game’s only goal with his sixth tally of the season as his chip shot with assists from Craig Patton and Chin Orih got past Irish goalkeeper Gerick Short.

The match was evenly contested as both teams fired 10 shots in the game. Short had an exceptional night in goal as he made four saves.

Notre Dame, which fell to 8-6-2 and 4-3-1 in the BIG EAST, had a chance to tie the match with 45 seconds to go in regulation, but his blast on the West Virginia goal, hit the post.

West Virginia maintained its first-place league in the regular-season standings as the Mountaineers improved to 11-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in league play.

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday, October 23 when the Irish travel to Jamaica, N.Y. for a 7:30 p.m. match against the St. John’s Red Storm.
