CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Notre Dame men’s soccer team dropped its BIG EAST opener as the Irish were blanked 2-0 at Boston College. The setback was the second straight for first-year head coach Chris Apple’s squad which lost a 3-1 decision to Bradley on Wednesday night.

With the loss, Notre Dame falls to 1-2-1 on the season, 0-1 in the BIG EAST, while Boston College improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in conference play.

Freshman Kenny Adams and sophomore Casey Schmidt each a goal for the Eagles in the contest. Adams’ score came at the 17:05 mark with assists from Casey Schmidt and Jorgen Lie. Lie headed the ball into the penalty box and then Schmidt touched it back to Adams who sent it into the back of the net.

Schmidt’s goal came in the 85th minute of the contest when he streaked through the Irish midfield after Kevin Boyd’s clearing header and beat Irish goalie Greg Tait (Fayetteville, N.Y.). Tait finished with five saves in the contest, while Eagle goalie Chris Hamblin recorded four saves in his first shutout of the season.

Notre Dame is off for a week before traveling to Syracuse, N.Y., to face the Orangemen of Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 p.m.
