Men's Lacrosse Starts Season in Top Five in Preseason Polls

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program finds itself in a familiar position entering the 2017 season, which is in the top five of every major preseason poll.

The Irish come in at No. 4 in the Inside Lacrosse, USILA and Quint Kessenich’s preseason rankings. Notre Dame was selected No. 5 in the US Lacrosse Magazine top 20.

Individuals who have been pegged to have a big season are senior midfielder Sergio Perkovic and senior goalie Shane Doss. Both were selected as first team preseason All-Americans by US Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse. Garrett Epple earned first team preseason All-America accolades by Inside Lacrosse, while Ryder Garnsey and John Sexton picked up third team honors by the media outlet. Inside Lacrosse also tabbed Mikey Wynne as a preseason All-America honorable mention.

The Fighting Irish get the 2017 season underway in Florida, as the team trains at IMG Academy for the week before playing the US National Team in an exhibition on Sunday, January 15 at 1 p.m. ET. The regular season begins in Dallas with a neutral site matchup against Georgetown on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. ET at The Star; the Dallas Cowboys newly constructed $1.5 billion facility.

Robby Hamman joined Fighting Irish Media as athletics communications assistant director in September 2016, coordinating efforts for the volleyball and men’s lacrosse program. Hamman is a 2010 graduate of Bethel College, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in sport management and business administration, and earned his master’s degree in business administration from Defiance College in 2013.
