MURRELLS INLET, S.C. — Senior tri-captain Scott Gustafson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) fired a four-under par 140, leading Notre Dame into sixth place after two rounds at the General Jim Hackler Invitational, which opened Sunday at the TPC of Myrtle Beach (par 72/6,950 yards) in Murrells Inlet, S.C. The Irish carded a 36-hole score of 17-over par 593 (296-297) and are among a group of six teams separated by six strokes trailing tournament leader East Tennessee State (575, -1) and host school Coastal Carolina (580, +4).

Gustafson shot matching rounds of two-under 70 in both the morning and afternoon sessions, tying ETSU’s Jordan Findlay for second place on the individual ladder, one stroke behind another Buccaneer golfer, defending champion Rhys Davies. Gustafson now has registered eight of 17 rounds at par or better this season, including five below par.

Sophomore Mike King (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) continues to play solid golf this spring, tying for 31st place thus far at five-over par 149 (76-73). Junior tri-captain Cole Isban (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) is a shot further back in a 36th-place tie at six-over par 150 (75-75), while senior tri-captain Mark Baldwin (Laconia, N.H./New Hampton Prep) is tied for 51st place at 10-over par 154 (75-79). Sophomore Greg Rodgers (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul’s School) is the final Irish golfer in a 70th-place tie at 15-over par 159 (76-83), but he did come through with the shot of the day for Notre Dame midway through the second round, draining an eagle on the par-five, 538-yard 18th hole (Rodgers’ 10th hole of the day).

The Irish return to the links Monday at 8 a.m. (ET) for the final round of the General Jim Hackler Invitational. Final results will be posted on the Golfstat live scoring web site (www.golfstat.com) shortly after the completion of play, and also will be available on both the official Notre Dame athletics web site (www.und.com) and the Irish Sports Hotline (574-631-3000).
