Men's Golf In 11th Place Through Two Rounds At The PGA West

LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Notre Dame men’s golf team remains in 11th place after shooting a 302 (299-302-601) in the second round of the Prestige at PGA WEST from the TPC Stadium Course of PGA WEST. On day two of the tournament, Notre Dame was led by senior Josh Sandman (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) and junior Connor Alan-Lee (Solana Beach, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School), who each carded two-over par 74’s.

Sandman, the reigning BIG EAST Golfer of the Month, notched three birdies on the day but was hurt by five bogeys. He is tied for 32nd on the individual leaderboard with a five-over par 149 mark through two days of play. He played his first nine holes of day two at a minus-one clip.

One of the players tied with Sandman for 32nd place is sophomore Max Scodro (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep (AZ)), who put together a five-over par 77 second round total. Scodro had an up and down second round, notching an eagle on the par-five 16th to go along with a birdie, 10 pars, four bogeys and two doubles.

Alan-Lee took two shots of off his first round total to turn in a 74 on day two. He notched five birdies on the day, including a string of three consecutive birdies on the seventh, eighth and ninth holes, but he also had five bogeys and a double.

Sophomore Chris Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) also had his second round counted towards Notre Dame’s team score, as he matched Scodro’s five-over par 77. Walker moved his two-day total to 153, placing him in a tie for 51st. He had 15 pars on the day, including seven pars to begin his round, as well as a bogey and two doubles.

Senior Doug Fortner (Tustin, Calif./Foothill) rounded out the Irish contingent with a second round 78. He had three birdies, four bogeys nine pars and two doubles. Through two rounds, he is tied for 59th with a 155.
