Men's Golf Coach John Jasinski Resigns

Dec. 7, 2004

University of Notre Dame men’s golf coach John Jasinski has announced his resignation for personal reasons following three full seasons in that position.

“In just over three years of service Notre Dame has had a tremendously favorable impact on my professional career and an even further positive influence on my wife and children,” said Jasinski.

“We will always keep Notre Dame dear to our hearts and I will do everything in my power to help the golf program transition toward the next head coach.”

“We understand and respect John’s decision,” said University athletic director Kevin White.

“We appreciate his contributions to our golf program and we wish him the very best.”

Jasinski’s 2004 Irish squad won the BIG EAST Conference championship and made Notre Dame’s first appearance in the NCAA Championships since 1966. The Irish ended up 12th in the 27-team NCAA Central Regional played last May.

Notre Dame had three all-BIG EAST honorees in ’04 in sophomore Tommy Balderston, freshman Cole Isban and sophomore Eric Deutsch. The Irish in ’04 produced five top-10 team finishes among 13 tournaments – and placed first or second four times, including a team triumph in the SMU/Stonebridge Invitational.

Jasinski’s first two Notre Dame teams finished second in the BIG EAST championships in both 2002 and ’03. He is the first men’s golf coach at Notre Dame to serve in that role on a full-time basis.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Jasinski spent nine seasons as head coach at the University of Toledo, taking the Rockets to the NCAA Championships four straight years from 1998 to ’01. He was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in 1996-97. He also served the Rockets for four year as an assistant coach, after three seasons as a member of the Toledo golf team.

During his tenure as head coach at the University of Toledo, Jasinski also was the head golf pro at Stone Oak Country Club in Toledo.

Jasinski is a 1983 University of Toledo graduate. His father Joseph is a 1953 Notre Dame graduate who played on the Irish golf squad as a freshman.
