Men's Basketball Squad Chosen Ninth In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

Oct. 27, 1999

NEW YORK – Connecticut, the defending NCAA and BIG EAST champions, is picked to win the 1999-00 BIG EAST regular season, according to a vote of the league’s head coaches.

The Huskies, who return three starters from last season, received 10 of the 13 first-place votes. Coaches did not place their own teams on their respective ballots.

The top half of the coaches’ picks is very similar to last year. Syracuse is again a solid choice for second, followed by St. John’s, Miami, Georgetown and Villanova. Last year the coaches placed Miami ahead of St. John’s, with Georgetown and Villanova at fifth and sixth.

Connecticut has put together the best record in the BIG EAST in five of the last six regular seasons. UConn was 16-2 in regular season play last season and captured its third AT&T BIG EAST Championship in the last four years.
