Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame men jumped from fourth to second place while the Irish women were in second after the second day of competition at the Notre Dame Invitational. The men tallied a two-day total of 846 points. Michigan State leads the men’s competition with 953 points, followed by Notre Dame, Western Kentucky (791) and Denison (772). The women tallied 840 points, just behind invitational leader Denison’s 856.50 points. Michigan State is currently third (731.50) while Harvard is fourth (704).

The men received strong second day performances from senior Ryan Verlin and junior David Horak. Verlin won the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:00.97. Horak was a member of the 200 medley relay team that won in a time of 1:33.68. He also placed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.61, as well as second in the 100 butterfly at 50.15.

The women were paced by freshman Marie Labosky and junior Kelly Hecking. Labosky finished first in the 400 individual medley at 4:24.23, while Hecking placed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.70. The women also received a strong showing from Allison Lloyd in the 100 breaststroke. She finished second with a time of 1:05.93.

The Notre Dame Invitational will conclude Saturday with preliminary heats at 10:00 a.m. and final heats at 6:30 p.m. at the Rolfs Aquatics Center.
