Melissa Lechlitner Diary Entry From Europe - Day 4

May 13, 2009

Editor’s note: During the Notre Dame women’s basketball team’s 10-day foreign tour of Europe, senior guard Melissa Lechlitner will file a daily diary after talking by phone with the South Bend Tribune’s Curt Rallo. Following are Lechlitner’s thoughts on the trip.

Bonjour!

Today was awesome. We had a blast.

We got on the train at 7:30 and it was a four and a half hour ride to Nice. When we got to Nice, we went to the beach. It was more rocky, not so sandy like we’re used to. It was a gorgeous beach. A few of us went swimming in the Mediterranean. It was freezing cold.

After we were at the beach, we went shopping and sightseeing. There was a gorgeous waterfall at the top of a nearby hill that gave you a beautiful view of the city. Some of us went up there and the sights from the top were amazing. The view of the sea was stunning, the water was crystal-clear blue. The architecture of the buildings is gorgeous, and there are palm trees all around.

The waterfall was blocked off, but Natalie (Novosel), Kellie (Watson) and I thought it would be a good idea to get closer, so we hopped the fence. It was awesome, and we got fantastic pictures. We just wanted to experience the waterfall firsthand.

When we’re checking out the sights, some people come up to us and say `basket-boll’, or they see the Notre Dame logo and go `woo-oo.’ It’s funny.

The highlight as far as the meals was we had crème brulee for dessert. Another highlight was having gelato. We were on the boardwalk by the beach, and we were just sitting there under the sun, eating gelato. It was awesome. We were living the life.

OK, time to go. Au revoir.
