Meet Preview: Texas Diving Invitational

Notre Dame head diving coach Mark Bradshaw will find out a lot about his group this weekend, as the team heads to Austin for the Texas Diving Invitational from Nov. 16-19. There will be 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events inside of the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. In the latest CSCAA Division I rankings, the Texas men are ranked second in the nation, while the women are third.

A couple of underclassmen have been the stars of the show for Bradshaw thus far.

On the women’s side, sophomore and 2022 NCAA qualifier Calie Brady has a pair of wins under her belt between the Pittsburgh and Louisville meets. She had a breakout dual meet season as a rookie, but Bradshaw believes she can do more on the national level in March. Early returns show that goal is well within reach for Brady.

Michigan graduate transfer and Australian native Allie Klein earned her first win in blue and gold against Louisville last weekend, notching the win in the 3-meter event. Like Brady, Klein was present at the 2022 NCAA Championship meet. She also was named an All-American by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America.

Bradshaw’s pair of freshmen divers are already drawing the attention of opponents. Daniel Knapp, who has won events at both Pittsburgh and against Louisville, is positioning himself well to be a big postseason contributor for Notre Dame. He won the 3-meter event against Louisville last week, and fellow freshman Ben Nguyen placed second to make it a 1-2 Irish podium.

For the Longhorns, junior Noah Duperre has the highest marks on the men’s team this year; he posted a score of 397.40 against Indiana and Texas A&M on Oct. 21, and his top 3-meter showing was a 354.45 score at the SMU Classic on Oct. 8.

Junior Bridget O’Neil has won three Diver of the Week awards this season, most recently sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter events at Virginia on Nov. 4-5.

Wednesday’s events begin at 6 p.m. CT, Thursday and Friday start at 10:00 a.m. CT, and Saturday will begin at 10:30 a.m. CT. Live stats can be found here, while a full schedule is here.
